Spilled Mushrooms (demo)

While embarking on a grand journey to deliver a basket of extremely important mushrooms, you accidentally spilled them. All of them. In a lot of places. Fortunately, you've befriended a whole squad of local critters to help you recover the lost fungi. Try to gather as many as you can before your delivery deadline!

Spilled Mushrooms is a card puzzle game with quick and charming puzzles. Using a small deck of critter cards, you need to strategically collect every mushroom from each region within a short number of turns. Each card has its own unique behaviors that can combo with - and against - other cards, leading to a complex system of synergies and sticky situations. Puzzles are procedurally generated, meaning every delivery is a completely one-of-a-kind challenge with at least one solution. While most of your deliveries can be completed with ease, some of them may leave you scrambling to collect that last mushroom!

This is a limited demo version of the game. You can play as much as you want, but you will need to buy the full version on Catalog to expand your collection, play the daily delivery, and build custom deliveries. Your demo delivery history can be transferred to the full game.

Note for Playdate Squad playtesters: if you previously playtested a copy of this game, this demo likely has less content than you experienced. Sideloading this demo will erase your collection and force you to re-unlock everything. If your latest playtest version was 0.26.1, you will have an 'export data' option to transfer your save data to the full Catalog release. If your latest playtest version was earlier than 0.26.1 and you want to transfer your data, please reach out to me on Discord.

I've loved the full version of this game and unlocked everything. It's a delight. So much attention to detail in the UX. The final unlock is funny, too.

I'd like to see a list of the trophies because there one or two I never quite figured out the meaning of.

Sometimes randomly generation makes a puzzle that is unintuitive, in that you need to avoid a lot of efficiencies in order to solve it. I'll often use hint mode for those, and the solution can feel a bit iffy sometimes (though sometimes it's "oh of course, I should have tried that"). This is always the case with generated puzzles, of course. But it makes me wonder if people have handmade some clever puzzles. I wouldn't know where to look, tho.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm especially happy to hear you like the last unlock - we put some extra effort into that one 🙂

For the trophies, I intentionally left them unexplained as a little bit of a community puzzle - I've seen a lot of users in the Playdate Squad discord decipher a few of them, but I haven't seen anyone record them anywhere!

For the unintuitive puzzles, that's definitely a side effect of being randomly generated! I personally view them as an important part of the game's difficulty curve. Generated puzzles with inefficient solutions tend to be easier and can give players some satisfaction from "outplaying" the game - that's where most of the trophies come from. For extra difficulty, players can demonstrate their mastery of the game by going for an exact solution, which usually requires a thorough understanding of both synergies and antisynergies of each card.

There have been a few custom designed puzzles shared in the Playdate Squad discord, but I haven't seen them anywhere else. It might be fun to see a thread on reddit or other social media!

I purchased from catalog and absolutely love this game. It has become my new favorite to play and reinvigorated me into bringing my Playdate along with me on a regular basis.

Is there potential for any updates in the future? Idk how it would work but I'd pay for dlc or something like that. Also, it would be really cool to have an end turn feature. I've found myself solving problems with days to spare and feel that it would be cool to just let a day pass and let the animals on the board complete the game.

I'm super happy to hear you're loving it!

I do plan to add some extra content, but the schedule is very rough right now, so I wouldn't expect it too soon.

Thanks for the suggestion, too! That's a fairly common request, but unfortunately I feel like it changes some parts of the puzzles too much, particularly when it comes to acquiring some of the bonus trophies. There are just some situations where being able to skip a turn can enable moves that weren't possible before. I do understand wanting to just set your cards in motion and watch it play out, though!

After posting that something actually happened to me that changed my win condition because of the cards I had left so I totally understand now lol

Is there anywhere that has a list of the bonus trophies (and the points they're worth) somewhere?

I intentionally left the trophies unexplained as a little bit of a community puzzle - I've seen a lot of users in the Playdate Squad discord decipher a few of them, but I haven't seen anyone record them anywhere! They aren't worth any extra points though - they're just fun awards 🙂

I just got two new ones I haven’t seen today! I’m gonna go check out what others are saying :P

One of my favorite things about the Playdate is how cool and accessible most of the devs are. Thank you for contributing to this little community and for making such an amazing game.

If you’re working on anything else I’m very much looking forward to whatever that may be. Cheers!

This is an absolutely perfect Playdate game, I got it from the catalog. The puzzles themselves are consistently fun and satisfying, and there are so many little touches that keep it fresh. Being able to go back and replay certain puzzles is a great feature; you can leave a puzzle you're struggling with and come back later. Love this game 10/10

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it :)

What a fun and visually appealing game! I will definitely be buying the full game :)

I love the artwork, and the audio, and everything just seems so polished. The sizing of the cards and text is perfect for the play date - they don’t seem overly big but they also don’t seem too complex and small, even though they are very nicely detailed.

Thanks! I hope you enjoy the full version!
